Coimbra ’24: Entrepreneurship in Water Sports & Travel (Grand Overview)

Day 1: Unconference and Get-to-Know-Each-Other

On the first day, we kicked off with an unconference to foster creativity and networking. Students explored their Ikigai and defined their mission and vision, setting the stage for the rest of the course.

Day 2 & 3: Problem Solving

Over the next two days, students delved into the story of SurfaWhile as a case study, focusing on identifying and solving real-life problems faced by the business.

Day 4: Company Visits

Students visited Murtinheira, including Sand and We Surf House, to gain insights into the industry. This day focused on understanding target groups and forming project teams.

Day 5: Value Creation and Lean Model Canvas

Day 5 was dedicated to learning how to create value through the Lean Model Canvas. Students were introduced to field research techniques and assigment.

Day 6: Company Visits

A day of exploration at Praia da Tocha, visiting Ticket2Surf, Hugo’s Shop, and Dreamsea Surf Camp. Students observed different business models and operations.

Day 7: SWOT Analysis and Guest Lecture

Students conducted SWOT analyses in-class and attended a guest lecture by Lac Campbell from Australia about copywriting. The day commenced with an external consultancy assignement at a local cafe where students (in pairs) tried to come up with break-through improvements and ideas for the place to use in real life.

Day 8: Free Day

A day to rest and recharge. Students potentially working on their Field Research.

Day 9: Marketing and Digital Marketing Lecture

Focusing on marketing strategies, students learned from Hans van Mourik about the latest digital marketing techniques and tools. Groups were also asked to present their findings around their Field Research.

Day 10 & 11: Finance and 1:1 Sessions

These days were centered around financial literacy, with personalized 1:1 coaching sessions to help students refine their company plans towards the final presentations on day 13.

Day 12: Storytelling, Elevator Pitch, Time Management

Students learned effective storytelling and pitching techniques, along with time management skills, capped with a guest lecture by GesEntrepreneur (specialised in the local Entrepreneurship Ecosystem).

Day 13: Final Presentations

The course culminated in final presentations where students showcased their business ideas to a jury, applying all they had learned.

This 13-day course blended theoretical knowledge with practical experiences, guiding students through the entrepreneurial journey in the tourism and water sports industry. Each day was designed to build crucial skills and insights, culminating in comprehensive business presentations.
