Entrepreneurship in Tourism at the Universidad de Cádiz

On Monday April 29th Level Entrepreneurship has provided a 90 minute Masterclass on Entrepreneurship at the Jerez de la Frontera campus of the Universidad de Cádiz.

The University in Cádiz teaches across several campuses and the one in Jerez de la Frontera (about a 30 minute drive from Cádiz) hosts the tourism studies, among others. Olmo van Beurden shared a presentation, combining own experiences, theory and a lot of practical examples. The questions ending every main topic made the session very interactive and successful.

During the first questions, the students (not being used to receiving a lecture in English) were still a little shy. The first question they got to answer was: ‘’What does Entrepreneurship mean to you’’, which was followed by a short discussion. Later on they got to answer questions about their potential product, target group and the way they would add value.

It got even more interesting once we started to look at network and branding as this seemed to be topics they would not think of on a daily basis. And that was exactly the aim of this Masterclass. To make the students think out of the box, think from an entrepreneurial perspective and to think about the essentials of entrepreneurship.

As the session progressed, more and more students took part in the discussion (both in English and Spanish). The teachers of the Universidad were happily surprised about the activities emerging, as this certainly wouldn’t always be the case when a Masterclass was being hosted.

Olmo: during the Q&A I got my favourite question so far: ‘’what is your dream?’’.

My dream and the dream of Level Entrepreneurship is to create an international community of young entrepreneurs, enabling them to learn from each other, to grow, to connect and to proceed as an entrepreneur. For now that will be done through lectures and LinkedIn, in the future hopefully the community will be ready to join international events, retreats and other ways to connect with us and mainly each other.
